Machine-stitched Buttonholes on Knits

Prevent buttonholes from stretching out of shape on knitted garments by using two strands of thread to gimp the buttonhole – the garment thread is ideal, as this will match well. Wrap the strands around the hook at the back of the buttonhole foot and guide the threads as the buttonhole is sewn.

Pull on the loose threads until the loop that forms at the back is hidden under the bar tack. Thread through a hand-sewing needle and pull the threads to the underside, sewing in to secure.
